Scottish Police Credit Union Supporting COPS 09 May 2013

The Scottish Police Credit Union Limited (SPCU)
Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of
Care of Police Survivors (COPS)

The Board of Directors of the Scottish Police Credit Union Limited (SPCU) has decided that it will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) charities by donating all joining fees from new members who join SPCU between 1st April 2013 and 31st March 2014 to COPS funds.
Each new member who joins SPCU pays a ‘one-off’ joining fee of £5.00 which is deducted from their first payment to the Credit Union, whether by payroll deduction or direct debit.  That is the only ‘administration fee’ that an SPCU member ever pays, no matter how long they are in membership or what SPCU services they use.
The idea to make such a donation to COPS was floated by one of our founder members, Tom Rowatt. Tom is currently working to assist with member engagement throughout the Police Service of Scotland.
Tom had dealings with the co-founder of COPS, Christine Fulton M.B.E., when her husband, Constable Lewis Fulton was killed on duty and he well remembers the effects that Lewis’s death had on Christine, Lewis’s parents and other family members, and his many friends and colleagues who were also stunned by his death.
In the ten years that COPS has been in existence it has undoubtedly brought care and compassion to the many survivors of Police officers who are killed on duty by whatever means and the many stories and testaments to the work that COPS has done for these survivors has been admired by many within the Police service. The Board of SPCU is no exception hence the idea they were happy to unanimously endorse Tom’s suggestion.
In an average year, around 350 new members join the SPCU and enjoy the many benefits of membership. We hope that many more will join and experience our organisation and support an outstanding charity.
The Scottish Police Credit Union Limited (SPCU) is a non-profit making, ethical financial organisation.  It was created by Police officers for Police officers, retired Police officers, support staff and their families who reside in the same household.
SPCU heralds the advent of the Police Service of Scotland and is taking this opportunity to reach all of its potential membership in Scotland to make sure that they are aware of the benefits they would derive from becoming an SPCU member.
These include: -
Payroll deduction - all savings and loan payments deducted from your pay.
Annual dividend on savings - has been 3% or more in the last four years.
Low interest rates on all loans - SPCU cannot be beaten on loans up to £4,999.
Access to secure area of SPCU website - to check account balances.
Highly dedicated and efficient staff - to serve members’ needs.
Protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) - savings up to £85,000.
So, aside from all of these benefits that you as a new member could accrue, you will also be contributing to the overall donation that SPCU makes to COPS.
